How They Met

Portia de Rossi met Ellen DeGeneres in 2000 and although there was chemistry, she didn't pursue it. Portia said in an interview in The Advocate "I ran into Ellen at a photo shoot [in 2004] and she took my breath away. That had never happened to me in my life, where I saw somebody and [experienced] all of those things you hear about in songs and read about in poetry. My knees were weak."

Ellen and Portia began their relationship in December 2004, after seeing each other again at VH1's Big in '04 awards show.

Ellen announced on her show on May 16th, 2008: "Yesterday, if you haven't heard, the California Supreme Court overturned a ban on gay marriage. So I would like would like to say, right now for the first time, I am announcing I am getting married."

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi were married on August 16th, 2008 in a small ceremony at their home.
